## vault user list

Lists every stored user. Shows which user is current.

### Usage

```sh
vault user list [--format <FORMAT>]
```

### Options

| Option | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `--format <FORMAT>` | `table` | `json` | Optional | Output format. Default: `table` |

This command also accepts the [global options](/vault-dx/dx-reference/command-reference/global-options/).

### Examples

#### List stored users

```sh
vault user list
```

#### JSON output

```sh
vault user list --format json
```

---

## vault user switch

Switches which stored user is current. If `USERNAME` is omitted, auto-selects when one stored user is available, or shows an interactive picker when more than one stored user is available (TTY only). In a non-interactive context with more than one stored user, the command errors: `multiple stored users; specify one: vault user switch <username>`.

### Usage

```sh
vault user switch [<USERNAME>]
```

### Options

| Option | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `<USERNAME>` | string | Optional | Username to switch to. Omit to auto-select (one stored user) or pick interactively (multiple users, TTY) |

This command also accepts the [global options](/vault-dx/dx-reference/command-reference/global-options/).

### Examples

#### Switch interactively

```sh
vault user switch
```

When more than one stored user is available and the shell is a TTY, the CLI shows an interactive picker. When only one stored user is available, it is selected automatically.

#### Switch to a specific user

```sh
vault user switch user@example.com
```
