# Installation

Veeva Claude Plugins install into Claude Code from the `veeva-claude-plugins` marketplace. Each plugin is a directory of skill files with no separate binary or package manager required.

## Prerequisites

Before installing a Claude Plugin:

* **A Vault user account with API access.** The `vault` plugin's `login` skill covers signing in.
* **Claude Code.** Plugins run inside Claude Code. Install Claude Code first if you have not already done so.
* **Vault CLI 26.2.4 or later (recommended).** Plugins route Vault operations through the Vault CLI when installed. Without it, the plugins call the documented Vault API directly.
* **On Windows: Git Bash or WSL.** Plugins call the Vault API using `curl`, which requires a POSIX shell. The Vault CLI runs in any shell.
* **Network access to `docs.veevavault.dev`.** Every plugin connects Claude to the remote Vault Documentation MCP server there.

## Add the marketplace

Run once to register the Claude Plugin marketplace with Claude Code.

```sh
claude plugin marketplace add https://download.veevavault.dev/claude-plugins/marketplace.json
```

If you have git installed, you can also add the marketplace from GitHub:

```sh
claude plugin marketplace add veeva-ai/claude-plugins
```

## Install a plugin

Install the plugin for your role. Claude Code installs declared dependencies automatically:

* **All Vault users:** Install `vault`
* **Administrators:** Install `vault-administrator` (installs `vault` with it)
* **Developers:** Install `vault-developer` (installs `vault` and `vault-administrator` with it)

```sh
claude plugin install vault@veeva-claude-plugins
```

```sh
claude plugin install vault-administrator@veeva-claude-plugins
```

```sh
claude plugin install vault-developer@veeva-claude-plugins
```

Start a new Claude Code session after installing so the skills load. Run `claude plugin list` to confirm the installed version.

## Install without git

Download `claude-plugins.zip` from [github.com/veeva-ai/claude-plugins/releases/latest](https://github.com/veeva-ai/claude-plugins/releases/latest/download/claude-plugins.zip). Unzip into a folder you keep, then add that folder as the marketplace:

```sh
claude plugin marketplace add "<path-to-folder>"
```

Then follow the steps above. When a new release is available, unzip into the same folder and run the update commands.

## Update plugins

Update the marketplace index, then update each plugin:

```sh
claude plugin marketplace update veeva-claude-plugins
claude plugin update vault@veeva-claude-plugins
claude plugin update vault-administrator@veeva-claude-plugins
claude plugin update vault-developer@veeva-claude-plugins
```

To turn on automatic updates for the marketplace, open `/plugin` in Claude Code and enable auto-update for `veeva-claude-plugins`.

## Validate a plugin

If you are developing or modifying a plugin locally, validate its structure before use:

```sh
claude plugin validate .
```

To validate a specific plugin directory:

```sh
claude plugin validate plugins/vault-developer
```

## Uninstall a plugin

To remove a plugin from Claude Code:

```sh
claude plugin uninstall vault@veeva-claude-plugins
```

Uninstalling removes the plugin's skills from your Claude Code session. Your Vault CLI sign-in is not affected.
