# Installation

The Vault CLI is a single binary. Install it using the install script for your platform, or download the binary directly from the [Downloads](/safety/vault-dx/cli/downloads/) page.

## macOS & Linux

Run the install script:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.sh | sh
```

## Windows

Run the install script in PowerShell:

```powershell
irm https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.ps1 | iex
```

## Install options

Both scripts support the following options.

**Custom install directory:** Set `VAULT_INSTALL_DIR` before running the script:

```sh
VAULT_INSTALL_DIR=~/bin curl -fsSL https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.sh | sh
```

```powershell
$env:VAULT_INSTALL_DIR = "C:\Tools\vault"; irm https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.ps1 | iex
```

**Specific release channel:** Set `VAULT_CHANNEL`:

```sh
VAULT_CHANNEL=release curl -fsSL https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.sh | sh
```

**Skip the install directory prompt:** Pass `-y` (macOS/Linux) or `-Yes` (Windows) for non-interactive environments:

```sh
curl -fsSL https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.sh | sh -s -- -y
```

```powershell
irm https://download.veevavault.dev/cli/install.ps1 | iex -ArgumentList '-Yes'
```

Direct binary downloads are available from the [Downloads](/safety/vault-dx/cli/downloads/) page for edge cases where the script cannot be used.

## Verify the installation

Confirm the CLI is on your `PATH`:

```sh
vault --version
```

You should see the installed version and platform printed, for example:

```
vault CLI 0.1.1 (darwin/aarch64)
```

## Update

Run `vault upgrade` to upgrade the CLI to the latest version in place.

## Uninstall

To remove the CLI binary and all stored credentials:

```sh
vault uninstall
```

You will be prompted to confirm. To skip the prompt in a non-interactive shell:

```sh
vault uninstall --force
```
