# vault upgrade

Upgrade the Vault CLI to the latest version in place. Fetches the release manifest, compares the current build to the latest, and replaces the running binary. A staleness check runs automatically on other commands and prints a notice to `stderr` when a newer build is available.

## Usage

```sh
vault upgrade [--check] [-y]
```

## Options

| Option | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `--check` | flag | Optional | Print the current and latest versions without installing anything |
| `-y, --yes` | flag | Optional | Skip the confirmation prompt and upgrade immediately |

This command also accepts the [global options](/vault-dx/vault-dx/cli/reference/global-options/).

## Examples

#### Check for a newer version without installing

```sh
vault upgrade --check
```

#### Upgrade immediately (non-interactive)

```sh
vault upgrade --yes
```
